Frequently Asked Questions

What is arm knitting?

Arm knitting is a knitting technique that uses your arms instead of knitting needles to create beautiful and chunky knit projects. It's a fun and quick way to make cosy accessories, such as scarves, blankets, and cowls, without the need for traditional knitting tools.

Do I need any prior knitting experience to participate in the workshops?

No prior knitting experience is required! Arm knitting is a beginner-friendly technique that can be easily learned in our workshops. An experienced tutor will guide you through the process, step by step, ensuring you have a great learning experience.

What will I learn in the workshops?

In my arm knitting workshops, you will learn the basics of arm knitting, including how to cast on, create stitches, and finish your projects. By the end of the workshop, you'll have a completed arm-knit project to take home.

What materials do I need to bring to the workshops?

I will provide all the necessary materials, including the yarn and any additional supplies needed for the specific project. You don't need to bring anything except your enthusiasm and a desire to learn. However, if you have a specific yarn you'd like to use, feel free to bring it along.

How long do the workshops usually last?

The duration of arm knitting workshops can vary depending on the project and the level of detail covered. Typically, workshops run for about 2 to 3 hours. I strive to ensure that you have ample time to learn and practice the techniques while enjoying a relaxed and engaging environment.

What should I wear to the workshops?

I recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move your arms freely. It’s best to wear short sleeves or sleeves that can be pushed up easily. It can also get a little sweaty at times so please don’t wear too many layers. It’s also best to leave jewellery such as rings and watches at home so they don’t get caught in your yarn.

Can I purchase arm knitting supplies or kits at the workshops?

Yes, I always bring extra balls of yarn and you are welcome to order more in advance. Just let me know what colours you would like and I’ll bring them along to the workshop.

Are the workshops suitable for children?

While the workshops are primarily designed for adults, older children and teenagers who have an interest in arm knitting are welcome. I recommend checking the specific workshop details or contacting me directly to determine the suitability of the workshop for younger participants.

Can I host a private arm knitting workshop for a special event or gathering?

Absolutely! I offer private arm knitting workshops for special events, birthday parties, baby showers, hen parties, team-building activities, and more. Please contact me with your requirements, and I'll be happy to discuss the details and customise a workshop to meet your needs.

I want to make a bigger blanket, can I order more wool?

Yes, you can request a 4kg ball to make a bigger blanket. This will incur additional costs and must be stated at least a week before the workshop is due to take place.

I want a blanket, but I don’t want to come to a workshop. Can you make it for me?

Of course! I rarely get a chance to do my own arm knitting these days and I’m always happy to take commissions. Just get in touch to let me now what you’re looking for and I’ll create a bespoke item for you.

I’m allergic to wool, can I still take part?

Yes! All the yarn I use in my workshops is vegan friendly and made of unspun acrylic fibres. This means it is perfect for those who are plant based, eco conscious or allergic to wool. Alternatively, if you would prefer to knit with merino wool, please let me know in advance and I can arrange this for you. Merino wool is more expensive than acrylic yarn so this will incur additional costs.

Where are you based?

I mainly work across Yorkshire but I’m always happy to travel. I’ve hosted workshops in Manchester, Derbyshire and London so please don’t be put off if you’d like to run one a bit further afield.

If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.I’m here to help and look forward to sharing the joy of arm knitting with you!
